Growing up I was a huge baseball fan, I remember sitting on the stoop with my dad, who was and still is a big Red Sox Fan.
Sitting around the old radio, waiting for that big moment when the man on the radio would scream out.
"ITS A LONG FLY BALL DEEP CENTER FIELD ITS WAY BACK ITS GONE ITS OUT OF HERE HOME RUN !!"
Thats what made it such a rush when your team was kicking butt. We would clinch our fist and throw our arm up in the air and do a "AAAHOOO!"
My dad knew his teams he could tell you who played what and how good of a hitter he was, and when one of the big boys would come to bat he would always say " They've had it now, he's going to drive it out of the park". As he pop a Lucky Strike in his mouth an waited for the pitch.
("...Here the whind up and the pitch...LOW AND OUTSIDE..") THE RADIO MAN WOULD SAY.
And just like he was there, Dad would say 'they don't want to pitch to him, they know it would be all over"
Some times I thought the New York Yankees were from another country, and we were in some kind of a war or something.
He disliked them dam Yankees I mean hated them more than anything, if you would say you where a Yankee fan, he would glare at you as if you were the devil. he just didn't like them.
I think we heard every game all year until it came down to the end where most of the time it was THE SOX'S vs THE YANK'S to see who go's to the World Series.
My fathers 69 years old now and has never been to a Red Sox game I think its time I buy some Tickets, for a good old REDSOX vs YANKEE game before I miss my chance to cheer for the home team with my Dad.
One more time!
